Founder's Journey
IT STARTED WITH VIPASSANĀ
In February 2024, while seeking deeper purpose, I enrolled in a 10-day Vipassana meditation course. This ancient practice helped me tune into my subconscious — and 3 powerful ideas kept returning to me:
Akunka: My son's first word — a symbol of courage, growth and beginnings.
Ikigai: A book I read spoke about Ikigai, but what stayed with me was Okinawa — a small island in Japan where people live some of the longest, healthiest lives on Earth (average lifespan ~84 years).
Vegetable Consumption Gap: My research showed a clear truth — despite being home to the world’s largest vegetarian population, India consumes far fewer fruits and vegetables than recommended (~225g/day vs. WHO’s minimum 400g/day). Globally too, the gap is vast. Scientific studies consistently show strong links between plant consumption and reduced risk of chronic illness.
Out of this intersection of silence, science, and symbolism, Akunka was born — a journey of healing through acceptance, progress and bringing plants back to our plates for a longer, healthier life.
